> L'arrotino... - The knife grinder...

"DONNE! E' arrivato l'ARROTINO! Arrota COLtelli, FOARbici, FORBICIne, FOARbici DA SETA, COLTELLI DA PROSCIUTTO! DONNE! E' arrivato l'ARROTINO e l'OMBRELLAIO! L'OMBRELLAIO, DONNE! Ripariamo cucine a gas!
"AARROTIIIIINOOOOO!".

This weekend I went to England again!
Even if it's my 7th flight (3rd one to London), I'm still scared by the plane; anyway it's really worth it. At least in my opinion, it's a very beautiful country: clean, tidy and English people seem to have a high sense of civility. And I had Steve's good company =^.^=
But now I miss him so much ç_ç
So, to feel a bit less sad, I decided to write something here and share with you another memory of mine...
Sunday morning. I'm relaxed on the bed, enjoying my free day: today I can sleep until late! But slowly, slowly, I start hearing a far voice. It's becoming more and more close! By now it's here:
"WOMEN! THE KNIFE GRINDER is here! He grinds KNIves, SCIssoours, LITTLE SCIssoours, SCIssoours FOR SILK, KNIVES FOR HAM! WOMEN! THE KNIFE GRINDER and THE UMBRELLA REPAIRMAN! THE UMBRELLA REPAIRMAN, WOMEN! We repair cookers! WE HAVE replacement PARTS for COOKERS! If you have gas LEEAAKS, WE REPAIR THEM! if the cooker MAKES SMOKE, WE TAKE AWAY SMOKE FROM YOUR COOKER! STRAIGHT WORK! IMMEDIATE! WOMEN..." !
Yes. From Bolzano (most northern Italian municipality) to Agrigento (most southern Italian municipality), from the speakers of a car, always the same recorded tape resounds "The knife grinder is here" and keep repeating itself infinite times, until it becomes again just an echo: "Women!", the knife grinder finally went away behind some corner in another street and I can go back to sleep!
Once it was different.
The knife grinder, grinders, indeed, passed there on Sunday morning, waking up the quarter...
But they didn't have a car: they walked, bringing their tools on a little carriage.
and they didn't announce themselves with recorded tapes: they screamed.
They screamed with sure, strong, clear voice, blowing out all the air they could blow out, and each one of them had his own "call", his own jingle, his own one and no one else's, to make people recognise him.
I know I won't be able to write their voices, but I'll try to think about a way to give you at least an idea of how they sounded, hoping I can make you understand me...
The knife grinders were two and they alternated their "visits", even if I don't know how they decided that.
The first knife grinder (also the first one who disappeared) had a quite deep and male voice (sounding like Aldo Fabrizi's voice, if you don't know him and you're curious you can look for him on Youtube).
"AARROTIIIIINOOOOO!" (knife grinder), where "arroti-" is all said with the same note, while the "-no" is one tone higher (in a sort of music scale: oooooooO).
Few seconds of silence and then again : "AARROTIIIIINOOOOO!".
The second knife grinder (who kept working until some years ago), had a softer voice that sounded like if it was coming from his "head" more than from his "stomach" (sounding like Alvaro Vitali or Maurizio Battista: again, on Youtube you can hear their voices if you're curious).
"ARROTINOOOOOOO!" , where "ar-", "-ro-", "-ti-" are sung in thre different rising notes (o0O) and "-no" is in a lower tone (oo00OOoo).
Few seconds of silence again and then: "ARROTINOOOOOOO!".
Every Sunday morning, early, really early, you could hear the echo of their voices, of their distressing jingles breaking the silence.
I could never see him, the knife grinder.
Obviously he was just a normal person like everyone of us!
But that constant and vaguely melancholic call, made him seem mysterious and I imagined him as more than just a simple person.
A 50-60 years old man, not really tall and a bit fat... A brown apron and a hat of the same colour... A poor man who lives just with his humble job, who pulls his little carriage for miles and miles, always repeating his sad jingle, who goes back at home just in the evening, tired. His home: a dusty loft-stock, on the last floor of a big house, from where he can see and dominate the city.
Poor knife grinder, I don't even know him and for him I really didn't imagine a great life!
Anyway this was a romantic fascinating thought: the last artisan being loyal to his ancient job, while the rest of the world let the cold technology hypnotize everyone "WOMEN! THE KNIFE GRINDER and THE UMBRELLA REPAIRMAN! THE UMBRELLA REPAIRMAN, WOMEN!" I understood!!!
Nice tape, repeating yourself infinite times, you force me to wake up.
But luckily, I'll keep in my mind the sweet memory of a most human and warm past...
Few seconds of silence and then...
"AARROTIIIIINOOOOO!".

> Per Sara e Francesca =^.^= - For Sara and Francesca

... L'inizio di una nuova avventura? ;-)

This is a little crazy tale I dedicate to the little, sweet sara and Francesca who helped me inventing it and who asked me to write it too! ;-)

Not long ago, in a restaurant called The Swans, there was a richly laden table on which, among glasses, dishes and cutlery, coloured vases full of flowers blossomed.
One day, well, actually, one night, a lively marriage was celebrated there, on that table.
Invited people ate and drank, danced and sang, played and joked to homage the two spouses, Fabio and Fabia.
And that's where our tale starts, on this table and in a happy and carefree atmosphere...
Mrs Tappetta was finally freed from the wine bottle in which she was trapped, so she decided to go to the hairdresser both to arrange her look and to not feel out of place, since people around her were all so elegant.
Unfortunately the only open hairdressed she found wasn't really good in arranging hair! But, at least, he gave her two nice earrings and a necklace.
Tappetta felt lonely, but soon she met the nice mr Tappetto: they fell in love with each other and they decided to get married.
They weren't really tall, but they were quite beautiful anyway: Tappetta had long straight hair around her face aggrandising her sweetness, Tappetto had little moustaches that made him look like the most fascinating cork of the table and they both had big lively eyes.
Their marriage was simple, but happy and full of love.
they went living in the little house-menu, surrounded by flowerbeds of green bottle caps and little flower-badges.
the little house was near a napkin-lake, crossed by a breadsticks-bridge taking to Mr tappetto's job: the office-menu.
During holidays the Tappetti family relaxed on the beach near the little lake, under the fresh shade of a lot of coloured and shining palm trees-decoration for fruit salad, wearing their cap-hats, one even with visor!
One day mr Tappetto decided to go to work with their boat made of a lemon flavoured napkin, but the napkin-lake was rough and he nearly drowned!
Luckily mrs Tappetta helped him immediately and they could save their own lives, but... Just in time!!!
After this misadventure, anyway, their life began quiet and bright again, and, after some time, mr and mrs Tappetti had a really beautiful daughter with blond hair...
... The beginning of a new adventure? ;-)

> Fine settimana - Weekend

I nostri pazzi giochi!

Argh!

This weekend I'll be busy, cos my cousin will get married.
My cousin!
He's three years older than me, so we grew up together.
I was always happy to go in the country and visit grandparents, cos there I would have found my cousin and I would have done the most absurd things with him. And I can't remember a single boring moment :-)
Our crazy games!
Making straw nests, connecting them with a little street drew on the ground, nurse some rock-eggs, pretending to be hens, and exchanging our nests... XD
Lining up some wooden boxes (yes, those used for fruit) and making them become our train...
Jumping on some old bed nets until we're left breathless and building some really dangerous swings: old plank hardly balanced on some bricks...
Mixing mud, feathers, shoe polish, lime and anything else near us, to make our lethal mixtures: the famous "Disgusting Things"!
"Persuading" the patient Billy-cat to sit calmly on the old pram...
Using rubber tubes as horses and feed them too!
Building infinite little houses where to play, but actually the game was just building them, never finish our "work" and keeping repeating the same lying promise "We'll put away everything later!"...
Going at the station on grandfather's Piaggio's Ape...
Fighting like rhinos and challenge grandmother going upstairs, near her bedroom, or entering the absolutely forbidden living room just to play a music box...
"Operating" unaware soft toys pulling out of them all the polystyrene... Polystyrene... Our snow, everytime we rubbed it on a wall!
Making soap balloons, sitting on the window, mixing dishes-soap and water, and blowing into an old pen, and chasing fireflies to gain some money...
Telling jokes about the Little Cheese Ghost or playing "Who Laughs First"... And not staying serious for more than 2 seconds! XD
Exploring the giant shower of my aunt, but she must not discover that or we'll be in troubles!
Pretending to drive a car and stopping at the petrol station, paying with Monopoli money...
And riding bikes, swimming, playing volley or soccer or hide-and-seek or treasure chase or rise and all those games children knew, at least in the 80's...
Reading Mickey Mouse with all those "Gulp! Argh! Yup!" and laughing until falling asleep.
We shared a lot of adventures and them all, I mean them all, always make me smile :-)
I can't keep inside a little tear in my eye now though! XD
Oh, tomorrow I'll need a towle more than a handkerchief!

> Struzzo Uapa - Ostrich Uapa

Lo so, lo so, ho mangiato troppo... ;-)

The title says enough about my ability of eating anything when I'm hungry...
Breakfast is an important meal, and I can't really stop having it, so yesterday, to begin the day, I ate milk-coffee and biscuits as ever... then, once I woke up, I went to work. :-)
Nutritionists reccommend to have a "second breakfast" at middle-morning, so I followed their advice... But maybe I exagerated a bit, cos my second breakfast began at 8:30 and finished at 10:00, and I had Pringles and chocolate biscuits! :-P
It's a good thing not forget about the lunch and Mediterranean Diet is one of the most healthy: pasta, meat (or fish), vegetables, fruit. that's my mediterranean lunch: pasta with bacon and tomatoes, sandwich with mortadella, sandwich with eggplant, a peach :-D
I know, I know, I ate too much... But cold made me feel a bit hungry and anyway dinner has been lighter! ;-)

> Liberty!

Voi cosa ne pensate? :-)

I've always liked Liberty-style illustrations, those old adverts on posters where women dressed in veils tasted Absinthe surrounded by a flowers frame...
So today, after some reserch on the net, I filled my eyes with those pictures and I tried, once again, to draw something imitating that style.
That's the result!
I know I make a lot of mistakes, but I must say I feel satisfied about that! :-)
What do you think about it? :-)

- The Director's Room... Oh God, it seems the title of a horror film!

*.*)... Tè? Burro fuso? Uhm...
Oh no! Ho di nuovo fame!!! XD

Yesterday one of the fathers of the Italian television, Mike Bongiorno, died. I don't want to make you sad, so I'll change topic immediately, but I had to say Ciao to him once again...
As ever I'm at work, but it looks like a quiet day, so I have more time to dedicate to my little blog!
Every morning, receptionists (me and another girl) have to put a new fresh bottle of water in the rooms of Director and President.
And I always find the Director's room so fascinating!
It's an elegant, but simple and hospitable, room, with nice white-cream coloured furniture.
I know, the world can live even without the description of the room of the Director of the office where I work... But i couldn't resist! XD
As soon as you enter the room, on the left, there are two little sofas, arranged to create an angle, covered with an ivory cloth. They look really soft... ah, if I could try them!
In front of them there's a little wood and crystal table where you can find a book about Italian castles (I don't need to say I'm sooo curious!) and a brass lamp.
On the left wall you can see the first of the two windows, both covered from a white-looking essential-thin curtain.
From the wall in front of the door, the second window give light to the Director's table, a tidy table that arrives nearly in the centre of the room.
technological computer, printer, phone and kettle on the little table next to the big table nearly look out of place in the classic style that characterize all the rest.
The whole right wall is nearly covered by the white library, where you can find really old volumes (some from 1850!) and modern magazines about insurances; ancient documents inside glass frames, and dvd players, and, in the middle, the lcd tv.
everything is halfway between the office and the quiet living room where to relax and have a tea (for Mirek: I keep thinking about the "burro fuso" (melted butter) in that book! *.*)... Tea?
Melted butter? Uhm...
Oh no! I'm hungry again!!! XD

> Fresca come una rosa - Fresh like a rose

Buon giorno!
No, va be', sto scherzando... :-S

Good morning!
I hope today will be more quiet than yesterday! At one point I would have started screaming and chasing everyone from the office, I didn't do that just cos after 10 minutes I would have finished the job!
Today my new boss will come here, so I slept well and I'm fresh like a rose, my uniform is tidy and my hair... No, ok, I'm joking... :-S
Yesterday night I fell asleep late to watch a horror film (mum chose it) , so you can imagine now I'm more than sleepy... The uniform... Never mind! Oh, i don't think it could ever be tidy, just for the way they made it... And as for my hair, it (IT!) decides itself how to look!
Anyway I hope the new boss won't notice that...
Oh, where did I put those glasses with eyes painted on them?!

lunedì 7 settembre 2009

> Lunedì mattina... - Monday morning...

Aaaaargh! Ho fame!

Aaaaargh! I'm hungry! Stop knocking at the door, especially when it's already open! Stop ringing the phone! Why don't you respect my job??? Find some peace! Will you stop screaming and making absurd noises?! Where are you going without permission?!!! AAAAARGH!
Ok, this is the typical day during which it's needed my transformation...!

> Il Ponte Dell'Arcobaleno - The Rainbow Bridge

There's a place in the sky called Rainbow Bridge.
When a furry friend who was loved by someone dies, he goes up near the Rainbow Bridge, where there are lawns and hills where our friends can run and play together.
There's a lot of food, a lot of water, a lot of sunlight, and our friends are in the warmth and feel fine.
All the ill animals recover, the injured ones become strong again, just like we remember them in our dreams, thinking back to the beautiful days we spent together.
The animals are happy, apart from one thing: they miss someone who was really special for them, and they had to leave.
They all run and play together, but for everyone of them it comes a day when they stop and look far at the horizont.
Their shining eyes are vigilant, their bodies palpitating.
Then they'll go far from the group, flying on the green grass, their feet will run more and more quickly.
They saw you, they recognised you.
You and your best friend will find each other again, to not leave each other anymore.
A rain of kisses will cover your face, your hand will stroke again the lovely little head, and you'll look again in your best friend's eyes, cos he was far from you phisically, but he always stayed in your heart.
And then you'll cross together the Rainbow Bridge.Arcobaleno

Mese 13.
Mese 15.
E' tutto diverso...Vivo incatenato.
Addirittura mi portano a passeggio!
Mese 20.
A malapena riesco a muovermi.
Week 1.
How beautiful I was born!
Month 1.
My mum takes good care of me. She's really a good mum.
Month 2.
Today they took me away from my mum. She was so nervous, and she told me good bye  with her eyes. I hope my new "human family" will take care of me as well as she did.
Month 4.
I grew up quickly, I'm so curious about everything. There are a lot of children at home and for me they're like brothers. We're so hyperactive, they hold my tail and I bite them to play!
Month 5.
Today they shouted at me. My owner was angry, cos I made pee at home, but they never told me where I had to make it. And I even sleep in the cellar... And I can't bear it!
Month 6.
I'm a happy dog! I live in a warm house and I feel protected. I think my human family loves me and they cuddle me. When they eat they offer me something. The whole garden is for me and I like to dig make holes in the ground, like my ancient relatives, the wolves, do when they hide food. My owners don't train me. Probably they like everything I do!
Month 12.
Today I'm 1 year old. I'm an adult dog now. My owners say I grew up more than they expected me to do. For sure they're so proud of me.
Month 13.
Today I felt scared. My little brother stole my ball. I never steal his toys. But he took my ball. But my teeth are strong and I hurt him, even if I didn't want to. After this scary thing they tied me with a chain and now I can't move. They say they'll keep an eye on me and they say I'm not grateful. I don't understand anything of what's going on.
Month 15.
Everything is different... I live with a chain around my neck. i feel so alone, my family doesn't love me anymore. Sometimes they forget I'm hungry and thirsty. When it rains I don't have a roof that protects me.
Month 16.
Today they took the chain off! For sure my family forgave me and I was so happy I jumped of joy! They even take me out for a walk! We were on a road and suddenly they stopped the car. They opened the door and I happily jumped off, thinking it was our walk in the country. I don't understand why they closed the door and went away, "Hey, wait for me!"... They... They forgot about me... I run behind the car with all my strenght. My fear grew, when I understood I was nearly fainting and they didn't do anything: they forgot about me.
Month 17.
I tried without success to find my way home. I feel lost. Sometimes I meet nice people who feel sorry for me and give me something to eat. I thank them with my eyes and in the deepest part of my soul. I'd like them to adopt me, I'd never betray them. But they just say "Poor little dog, maybe he lost his way".
Month 18.
The other day I walked near a school and I saw a lot of children and boys like my brothers. I went closer and some of them, laughing, threw me a lot of rocks to see who could do it better. One of them hit my eye and since then I'm blind.
Month 19.
I can't believe it:when I was beautiful they all treated me better. Now I'm so thin, my look changed. I lost an eye and people chase me away with a broom when I look for a place where to recover from hot sun.
Month 20.
I'm nearly not able to move. Today, while I was trying to cross the street where cars drive, one of them hit me. I was in a safe place called side, I'll never forget the satisfied face of the driver, who even turned his car quickly to hit me. I wish he killed me... He just dislocated my hip, pain is terrible, my legs are weak and I could hardly reach a lawn.
Month 21.
It's 10 days I'm in the sun, rain, cold, without food. I can't move anymore, pain is unbearable. I feel really bad. I'm in a wet place and it looks like I'm losing my fur. Some people walk without seeing me, other say "Don't go near him". I can hardly feel anything, but a strange strenght made me open my eyes. Her sweet voice made me react. "Poor little dog, look what they've done to you" she said... Close to her there's a man with a white coat, he touched me and he said:"I'm sorry, but I can't do anything for this dog, it's better if he stops suffering". The sweet lady cried and then said yes. For what I could do, I wagged my tail and I thanked her with my eyes, cos she cheered me up a bit. I just felt the tip of the needle and I fell asleep forever, wondering why I was born, if no one wanted me here.
