Ho cominciato a correre - I started running

A couple of months ago I started running, supported by an app I downloaded on my mobile, that's helping me an awful lot to reach really amazing results!
Then one day, while running, I asked myself what running means to me.
It's not my favourite sport, cos the place belongs to volley, since always!
It's not even a way to move faster, for that purpose I'll always prefer the bike and, anyway, who knows me well knows I'm not really a cheetah.
So, what is running for me?
Why on earth should I get changed, put my trainers on three days at week, after eight hours of work on my feet?
Why freezing my legs to death, in the winter?
And then being out of breath, especially when the air starts to get warmer and feeling heavy legs and again short breath... Trying to defeat the instinct that would make me pant like a dog when he's hot and concentrating on my breath: inhale, exhale, slowly, inhale, exhale, again, inhale, exhale, deeply.
Synchronize the rhythm of your breath with the rhythm of your pace.
What is running to me?
Yesterday, while running, I kept thinking about it and I really couldn't find an answer and this question kept tormenting me.
Running is control.
It's when you'd like to let yourself breath in a quick and uncontrolled way, but you know it would be an illusion and your body wouldn't like it, so you keep breathing slowly and steadily and you enjoy the feeling of it.
And the fatigue? What's so enjoyable about it?
Feeling your legs becoming heavier at every metre, your arms looking forward to relax and stop acting as a spring, your bottom that just can't lift your thighs anymore.
But now you've ben runing for twenty minutes already, five more and for today you're done.
You can do it, one step after another, keeping putting one foot in front of the other, to that lamp, to the corner, then there will be the slope and it'll become easier.
It's endurance. It's being stubborn and endure in what you're doing.
Don't think too much about it or time will never go by.
Trees are becoming more and more green. Gardens are exploding with colour, filled up by colourful primulas, delicate forget-me-nots, by the bluebells, that are now invading fields and woods, covering them with blu and purple carpets.
Magpies hop, wood pigeons glide. A bluetit flutters lightly, like if it was made of just feathers. Those goldfinches are giving me a concert of tweets, while a blackbird, from his high post, is gorgeously singing solo.
Here they go, those two cats who live in that house, as every afternoon they go out to explore the well kept garden and have some fuss from the people walking by.
Only one minute left now, the other four flew by, as busy as I was observing the world around me.
Running is distraction. But it's also concentration.
Or maybe it's being able to distract yourself from stressful thoughts and learn to concentrate on more positive vibes.
The last sixty seconds flew in a sprint.
Now I can go back to walking and slowly begin to breath more slowly, with a more natural rhythm.
My heart rate goes back to normal more quickly now.
Now I can enjoy the sun, the breeze, the colours and the scents, happy for reaching my goal.
Running is satisfaction: after working so hard, you do feel satisfied.
I stretch and it's such a beautiful feeling.
I look at the mirror and, for the moment, I'm still looking the same as when I started.
But I don't care, I know I worked well.
And, maybe, running is also accepting yourself and your limits, without haunting your mind with pointless guilt.
It's recognising your own merits.
