Pranzo in barattolo! - Lunch in a jar!

1) Condimento.
2) Verdura/frutta (carote, broccoli, cetrioli, peperoni... Pomodori*, frutta varia).
3) Proteine (carne, pesce, formaggio, uova, yogurt).
4) Verdure a foglia (insalate di ogni tipo e verdura cotta).
5) Pasta, riso o cereali.

Personally I always preferred to take to school/work something I prepared at home, to be eaten cold or warmed up, cos I always know what I put in it and I know exactly how much of it I need to not starve, and luckily at home we always ate in a quiet healthy and still scrumptious way.
You can't compare how handy a lunch box is or how really cool a well organised bento box is, but for who isn't scared of being even more original (still using something really handy), here's the lunch in a jar!
Jars are customizable, you just need to stick to few simple rules, so that the ingredients don't soak in the dressing and keep nice until lunch time:

Starting from the bottom, follow this order:
1) Dressing.
2) Vegetables/fruit (carrots, broccoli, cucumbers, peppers... Tomatoes, various fruit).
3) Proteins (meat, fish, cheese, eggs, yogurt).
4) Leaf vegetables (every sort of salad and cooked leaf vegetable).
5) Pasta, rice, cereals.

On the net you can find recipes for every taste, sweet and savoury, I adapted the rules to a very light and delicious recipe we love at home: rocket, bresaola ham and cherry tomatoes!

Choose a nice glass jar and put the dressing on the bottom: I used olive oil, lemon juice (for reasons too long to explain, related to our fridge, I use a juice in bottle) and salt, to be neasured depending on your personal taste...

... Lavate e asciugate i pomodorini, tagliateli a metà e versateli nel barattolo...

... Wash and dry the cherry tomatoes, cut them in half and put them in the jar...

... Time for the bresaola ham: I rolled it and broke it in half, trying to touch it as little as I could to not affect its taste and avoid contamination (your Uapa is a real maniac, regarding this stuff) and then I added it to the other ingredients in the jar...

... Once you washed it and spun it well, you can add rocket as last layer of our jar.

Io l'ho testato e l'ho approvato, ora sta a voi decidere se provarlo o no ^^
In ogni caso, un abbraccio arcobaleno! :-*

And here is our lunch in a jar!
The airtight lid won't let the dressing go out, but just to be safe I always put my lunch boxes in a small plastic bag, so even in case some "accident" happens I'm not scared and my handbag is safe!
Glass has this great quality that I love: it doesn't affect the taste of things, also, being just a jar, I don't think it's this great weight to carry.
At lunch time just take your lunch out of the fridge (or the cool bag), shake it so that the dressing coats all the ingredients; now, if the jar's opening is large enough, we can eat directly from it, otherwise we can put everything in a dish.
I tried it and I liked it, now it's up to you if trying it or not ^^
Whatever is your choice, I give you a rainbow hug! :-*

7 cose di cui ho paura! - 7 things I'm afraid of! (3/3)

Ciao a tutti!
E allora basta tergiversare e procediamo!

Hello everyone!
Tell me the truth, you couldn't sleep, cos you were so curious to know what fears occupy the top of my chart!
And maybe you're expert ornithologists too, now!
So, let's no waste any more time and let's see!

 Increddibile aammisci! Pari merito!

Incredible! A joint position!

3) DENTISTI/OCULISTI - DENTIST/OCULIST

Lenti a contatto? URGH O.O

I really couldn't choose one... So let's see the details.
- First of all we must say that, usually, dentists are scared of me too. It's a mutual thing.
It started with six (and I mean 6) dentists holding me with big effort, while their colleague pulled away one of my teeth, and it culminated with my bite to a work mate of my cousin (dentist too), who was pulling off one of four teeth, that needed to be removed in order to make space to the others: "I'll put my finger between your incisors, when I say 'Grit' you grit... Grit!"
Maybe I should have waited for her to take away her finger, maybe she didn't expect I'd bite that hard. And maybe she didn't imagine that Pittbull-Uapa wouldn't release her finger too easily. One week of valium to recover from the experience. I mean, not me, the dentist ^^'
Then wisdom teeth arrived and they'll have to be pulled out, no matter what. The first one is gone already and my cousin still has his hand, just cos I arrived at the surgery under the effect of extra strong camomille and tranquilizers.
- At secondary school there was this questionable fashion of throwing each other chalkboard erasers, until one day the thing landed on my eye, resulting in me having chalk dust in my eye, taking antibiotics and keeping a pirate-like bandage on it, cos there was the risk that the chalk could scratch and damage my cornea :-(
Since then I'm scared of losing my eyesight and I'm heyepochondriac: I don't let anyone come close to my eyes, not even to help me with make up (I do it myself, thanks) and it also makes me a bit sick to see women putting eyeliner inside their eyelid.
I wear glasses when I drive, even if I always feel like if something is too close to them (eh, well, glasses '-') and I feel it like a fail (seeing my eyesight getting worse and realising thata was baaad). Contact lens? URGH! O.O
And so, if dentist-fear transforms Uapa in a ferocious wild beast, the same fear paralises her and knocks her out when she's with an oculist.
Like that time when she fainted, cos she thought the effect of the atropine drops they put in her eyes, during a check after a ball hit her really hard, would last for ever.
"But! What happened??? O_O" screamed the poor worried oculist, when he saw her flat on the bench of the waiting room ^^'

2) AEREI - PLANES

"Prendi dei tranquillanti, no?"
Sai quanti incidenti d'auto, ogni giorno? E in bici?"
E insomma...

Trivial, but so real to make me want to travel between Rome and London by car, every time. We're working on it. Especially after the last landing.
Let's be clear, I'm not scared of flying. I'm scared of falling -_-'
"Take tranquilizers!"
No. Cos I want to be concious if it falls.
"Plane is the safest way to travel! Do you know how many car accidents there are every day? And with the bike?"
What if mine is the one out of a thousands that falls? At least with the car you have some more chance to survive. And with the bike I'm in control of everything!
Thirty seconds after the take off, I can already imagine the newspapers titles: "Plane crashes after take off!" ò_O
Well, I love my life, I like this planet too much to leave it like that ;-) and I couldn't bear the idea of the sadness that those I love would feel :-S
Oh well...

1) DIMENTICARE - FORGETTING

Forgetting those I love, forgetting my memories, beautiful or bad it doesn't matter.
This as well would make those I love sad and so the idea it could happen makes me sad too.
Maybe that's also why I like so much to write, and read back the old stuff I wrote (in a diary, in a blog, on a post it or in an essay for school) is like browsing a photo album: a lot of memories come back and you realise how you changed in time and how you keep growing up, as a person.

So, this are the 7 things (well 7 of the things) I'm afraid of!
And you? What are you scared of?
I wait for your answer and, meanwhile...
A rainbow hug to everyone! :-*

7 cose di cui ho paura! - 7 things I'm afraid of! (2/3)

Ciao a tutti!

Hello everyone!
Maybe you only just saw this or maybe you couldn't care less, but this is the second part of the posts dedicated to my fears!
Let's keep studying the chart with the two central positions!

5) ALIENI - ALIENS

Ovviamente no. In realtà non ho ucciso nessun Grigio.

Ok, this needs an explanation!
Even if I loved the X-Files series and even if I believe universe is too big for us to be the only form of life in it, I'm not a fanatic of conspiratorial theories that see the Earth already invaded by grey or reptilian aliens.
My fear for aliens started from a dream I had when I was just thirteen years old...
It was a summer night as many, me and grandmother were already in bed and we left the window open, cos of the heat. At one point I saw two grey aliens coming in from the window, they were just around thirty cm tall.
Grandmother was sleeping and these two little creatures were on her bed and were studying her with their big empty black eyes, in a way I didn't like.
Then one of them turned towards me and moved to come closer to me, looking curious or maybe disappointed, hard to say...
So, in panic, I grabbed a book from the bedside table and hit the alien with it, with all my strength: the little being fell dead under grandmother's bed, while its mate ran away from the window.
The dream seemed so true that the next morning, when I woke up, the first thing I did was checking under grandmother bed to see if the corpse of the alien was still there.
Of course it wasn't. Truth is I didn't call any Grey.
Or maybe I did and now they're spying me from behind some bush, waiting to take their revenge.
So, I apologise, if they invade us and they're mad as hell, maybe I'm a bit responsible for that.

4) SCALE - STAIRS

Io.
Che fino a pochi anni fa saltavo i gradini a quattro a quattro.

Years climbing trees and walls (I still do it), years climbing over fences and gates (I still do it), years spent on any kind of skates, on the bike (in Rome's busy roads), on the skateboard (one day I'll talk about this nice object more in detail), years climbing wall bars of all sorts and then, one day, I woke up with the brand new fear of falling from the stairs.
Me.
The one who jumped four steps at a time, until few years ago.

And so, also this post has come to an end and I'm still curious to know if you're scared of one of these things too... Even if I must admit that the one about aliens maybe is something that just hits me, really ^^'
A rainbow hug to everyone! :-*

7 cose di cui ho paura! - 7 things I'm afraid of! (1/3)

Ciao a tutti!
Cominciamo dall'ultima posizione...

Hello everyone!
You know every now and then I like to share a little bit of me with you, so (before dedicating myself to birds during that sleepless night) I thought of talking to you about 7 of my uhm more particular fears...
Some absurd and exaggerate, I know, but... As ever, I never said I was normal! ;-D
Let's start from the last position!

7) BRUCHI - CATERPILLARS

Poi diventeranno splendide farfalle.

I can't help it.
I would never harm them, poor things, but caterpillars terrify me and to me it doesn't matter if they're poisonous or not: it just takes one of them to make my blood cold.
They can be cute, with their vivid colours or their fur, but then... Then they see me, they look at me with threatening eyes and they stand up, ready to attack me. And when they'll jump on me, they'll stick to my skin with their fat feet and they'll devour me voraciously, like they do with leaves. ò_O
Well, these are the absurd films that my mind creates when I see caterpillars -_-'
Then they'll become wonderful butterflies.
Butterflies, precisely: they keep scaring me even after the metamorphosis!
Now imagine Uapa becoming pale, while she takes care of the plants in her nice pots or while she's washing salad at work and she finds a guest in it: the only neuron who didn't faint cos of the fear suggest her to run away or to remove the caterpillar with the longest tongs she can find.

6) OMBELICO - BELLY BUTTON

I'm omphalophobic: I'm scared of belly buttons.
I mean, I'm not scared of the belly button, but of someone touching it (mine or theirs) and, if it happens, I actually feel sick.
I don't know what happened at one point in my life, cos I remember a time when I wasn't scared at all and I even "tortured" my cousin, forcing him to look at me when I used to roll my finger in my belly button '-' (>> it's called karma)

Ok, these were the last two position of my phobia-parade, which I decided to divide in three parts to not make it too long and boring!
And, who knows, maybe this episode-post will make you curious ;-D
I am, I'm curious to know if you share these fears with me or if I'm their only "victim" XD
A rainbow hug to everyone! :-*

Notte insonne: Uapa ornitologa. - Sleepless night: ornithologist Uapa

Tic toc tic toc tic toc tic toc...

A me è sembrato un cinguettio.
A Roma mi svegliavano sempre.

Tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock...
The alarm clock on the bedside table endlessly counts the seconds and I count them too, while a lot of questions fill my head. Too many questions. My crazy questions of the night.

"Why this noise usually helps me to sleep, but tonight us keeping me awake? Why do I itch everywhere? Is it possible to replicate gravity, in space? Why do we have tears when we cry? I mean, why do we leak water from our eyes, as a response to an emotional stimulation? And, above all, how did Steve fall asleep as soon as his head touched the pillow?"

He was tired. Me too, for God's sake. At dinner time I felt all the fatigue of all the week, all of a sudden, and staying awake was such a desperate mission that I'd fall crying on the carpet, to fall asleep on it.
But now, nothing, I'm awake. Another minute. Two more. Five. Ten.
It's cos of the tea. Too strong: "Do you want some more milk in it?" "No, don't worry!".
Tsk, don't worry. And that's the result, it's two hours I'm lying in bed, counting the seconds with the alarm clock and with the clock in the kitchen, that seems its echo.
Helen Keller's book is on the bedside table too, so close, so far: I'm in Steve's hug and he's sleeping so well, and even if I'm so envying him, I don't feel like waking him up too.
Between me and the book, there it is: my mobile phone charging and, suddenly, I don't have any question to ask omniscient Google.
A tweet! Was it a tweet or some door squeaking? It sounded like a tweet to me. But it can't be, cos it's just around 2:00, it's too early and... I wonder at what time do birds start singing... And I wonder if there's a species that starts earlier than the others... Or maybe they start as simply as that, depending on who wakes up first?
Let's see... Focus. It's the first site I find and it's enough for me to like it, cos it's not really easy to read the phone while lying, with your face squashed on the pillow.
The blackbird! Well, yes, it's true. In Rome they would often wake me up. At 4:00, congratulations!
Oh, ok, the one I hear when I go to work is a song thrush.
The robin...
And so I manage to discover that those who wake up earlier have bigger eyes, cos they wake up when it's still dark, cos they eat worms and we all know (do we?) that worms come out from the ground before the sunrise. I'll keep that in mind.
So the wren, the chiffchaff and the blac cap eat insects and they start singing at around 5:00, when flies, mosquitoes and spiders are more active, well well...
And here they are, we only missed those that eat seeds, who wake up at around 6:00, when the sun already rose, so they have smaller eyes, cos the sun is already up in the sky anyway and they can see around.
Good, I found an answer to my question, but I have another question already, although they say that reading helps you relax and fall asleep: why do birds sing so loudly in the morning? Or it's just an impression and they just sound more loud, cos of the silence that surrounds everything?
What makes me happy is that, apparently, I'm not the only crazy sleepless person who thought about it, cos on the same page I find the link to an article called "Why do birds tweet at dawn?".
Cos they're weak. Be aware of that.
When I'm weak cos I just woke up, cos I spent a night without eating, I can't even open the lid of the milk bottle and I have to cry for help to Steve, who has fun, surprised of my miserable sosftness, imagine if I could sing!
But they sing and, according to Focus, they do it to appear cool to the eyes of the females:

"Look at him, even if he's weak cos he didn't eat all night, he still has such a loud voice! I made my choice: he'll be the father of my chicks!"

Oh well, I've always known I'm more like a letargic hedgehog than a sparkling great tit who sings at 4:00 (at 5:00 even, cos they eat insects).
And when does the rooster sing?
Focus doesn't follow me anymore, I'm the only one who ever wondered that, no links to other articles and I have to find another website.

Stupid sensational articles where they announce the world that scientists from Albuquerque's University in Minnesota discovered the rooster doesn't sing cos the sun rises, nor the sun rises cos the rooster sings, what did you think, decades of research to realise that.
Grandmother had a rooster when I was a child, that was nearly as tall as I was. Let's see if I can find a picture of it!
Not this, not this, too small, too white, this is a drawing, this one has a fringe that covers the crown... Tail too short, this other one is too long, drawing, drawing, nearly there, but this one has a green tail, grandmother's one had a barred tail... This one is ALL barred, for God sake! I must say he's cool... But...
The strong temptation of joining a farmers forum to describe grandmother's rooster and know what breed it was is defeated (only slightly) by the curiosity to know more about this other rooster.
An so the night went on like that, until finally a hint of sleepy feeling made my eyelids heavier, I put back the mobile phone on the bedside table and I joined Steve in Morpheus arms.
From last night I learned something more about our feathered friends.
And anyway, if you want cool hens, consider Amrock ones: they're very beautiful, docile and productive.

PS: Albuquerque is not in Minnesota, it's in New Mexico.

Fontane di Roma - Fountains of Rome

Unknown fountains, that people usually never notice, but that I like a lot :-)
I thought I'd share them with you :-)

Borgo Pio.

Borgo Pio. My grandmother grew up here, playing in the shadows of the columns around St Peter's. And she probably drank many times the water of this little fountain, that was built in 1870, during the reign of Pope Pius IX, together with the restoring of Aqua Marcia ( an ancient Roman aqueduct), that then took the name of Aqua Pia.
So, for that reason, even if it's really little and simple, this is one of my favourite fountains :-)

Villa Borghese.

Villa Borghese Gardens. Along the road, not far from Flaminio Square, there's the Fiocco Fountain, built around 1833.
prings and waterfalls flow in the big pool at the bottom, clear and smooth... Oh, so many times I wish I could jump in there, it's really temptating! XD
Of course I can't do it, but someone else can: often, in Spring, a couple of mallards swims peacefully in this fountain, coming from the near lake :-)

Trastevere, San Michele building. I discovered just by fortune the Fontana del Timone (timone means rudder. I wonder why it's called like that!), while I was riding my bike to take pictures of modern Rome, to compare them with those of the old Rome (you find them on Twitter on @RomaSparita profile).
Hidden in the traffic of Lungotevere, in front of the ancient Ripa Grande dock on the river, there's this little fountain, built in 1927, with other seven fountains, that represent the symbols of seven different quarters of Rome.

Santa Maria in Cosmedin (Bocca della Verità-Mouth of Truth). Like the previous one, also this fountain was discovered by luck, while I was ridng in Rome, and it's not even that little to not be seen!
It was built in 1717, during the reign of Pope Clemente XI, and it was used to provide water for horses and various farm animals.
recently it's been moved some metres from its original location.
You can find many picture of an old Rome, where you can see cows and sheep walking around it...

... A time during which Rome just became a capital and it was overwhelmed by too sudden and too brutal changes, that would tranform it once again.
Actually, strong contrasts were always part of this town and maybe it's right that way.
But seeing in a picture a past that disappeared and comparing it with a present, that is often of questionable taste, always impresses me a lot!

Foro Romano.

Roman Forum. This one, as witnessed by the next picture, is the Pigeon Fountain.
Ok, I admit it, I don't have idea of its name or of when it was buitl! XD
It's in a quiet corner of the Forum, where, surrounded by the ruins, you wouldn't be surprised if two real ancient Romans walked near you :-)

And these two pigeons, that weren't scared at all by me, while  was taking pictures, reminded me so much of a Roman fresco, that I couldn't leave them out, don't you agree? :-D

Aiuto.

Help. I mean, I don't have idea of how this fountain is called. The only thing I know is that it's exactly under Pincio's terrace, over Piazza del Popolo, and usually you see it from down there. But going near it is different :-)

Oval Fountain, built in 1908, after the building of the bridge that links Pincio's terrace with Villa Borghese.
I found it wonderful to look at the reflection of poplars in the water of this big fountain and I find it really relaxing to walk around it, cos it's surrounded by green gardens :-)
Anyway, mind that in the Summer it's not always that relaxing: sometimes it's unfairly used as a swimming pool, so it's the chaos, between people bathing and running away when Carabinieri (police) chases them away -_-
Sometimes you can see ducks swimming here too :-)

This is a part of the fountains of Rome that 'm very fond of, for a reason or another. Corners that I know like the pockets of my jeans and that I love.
I hope you'll like them too and I hope one day you can see them for real too... Who knows, maybe they'll remind you a little bit of me? :-)

PS: I was a bit disappointed, cos after one month since I wrote this article, no one commented it. Then I realised I never published it -_-' sorry, I'm just a bit distract ^^'
